Say the 'Smart Drug' Modafinil Is the New Adderall — Only Better).
To support her claim, the author of the
article cites a variety of sources including interviews with members of various
internet “smart drug” communities and data from informal drug use surveys. Interviewees
for example, who were asked to explain their preference of modafinil over other
stimulants such as Ritalin® and Adderall®, said they preferred modafinil because they
experienced little to no adverse side effects. The author also draws attention
to the results of a recent drug use survey conducted in Britain that showed one in five university
students in the UK had used modafinil.
The Oxford University researchers who
published the modafinil review commented that they did not intend for their
review to promote modafinil use. The review instead was intended to raise
awareness about the ethical issues surrounding the use of “neuroenhancers” and
the methods used to study them.
