Known by the trade names, Lomotil® and Lonox®, diphenoxylate is an opioid prescribed for the treatment of diarrhea. According to recently published case reports, opiate addicts have been observed to substitute antidiarrheal medications like diphenoxylate or loperamide for prescription opiates when access to those prescriptions becomes limited.
