Cerilliant Introduces Certified Spiking Solution® of Acetyl Fentanyl

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – November 12, 2013 – Cerilliant introduces a Certified Reference Material of acetyl fentanyl in methanol at a concentration of 1.0 mg/mL. This can be used as a Snap-N-Spike® starting material in the laboratory’s matrix of choice for preparation of calibrators and controls in fentanyl testing methods and other forensic, clinical toxicology, or prescription monitoring applications by GC/MS or LC/MS. For quantification of acetyl fentanyl levels using MS methods, Cerilliant also offers a 13C6–labeled internal standard at a concentration of 100 µg/mL in methanol.

Acetyl fentanyl is a synthetic opioid and fentanyl analog with potency forty times greater than heroin and eighty times greater than morphine. In June, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a health alert for acetyl fentanyl, reporting fourteen overdose deaths in Rhode Island. The CDC’s health advisory included a recommendation that toxicology laboratories conduct confirmatory testing for acetyl fentanyl by GC/MS in the event an ELISA screen for an overdose patient is positive for fentanyl.1  “Both illicit and licit drugs are emerging at such a rapid pace that it is challenging for laboratories to develop and revise new methods,” comments Derrell Johnson, Cerilliant’s New Product Development Manager. “We are continually monitoring emerging drugs of abuse like acetyl fentanyl and developing Certified Reference Materials to meet the demanding needs of the analytical testing community.”

Cerilliant offers a wide selection of Certified Spiking Solutions® for use in medication monitoring, forensic analysis, urine drug testing, clinical toxicology, and employee drug screening including parent drug, metabolite, and internal standard Snap-N-Spike® solutions of opiates and synthetic analgesics, anticonvulsants, cannabinoids, benzodiazepines, antidepressants, barbiturates, and alcohol/ethanol in addition to synthetic cathinones and cannabinoids, phenethylamines, hallucinogens, and other new designer drugs.

Cerilliant’s drug reference standards are manufactured and certified to the highest industry standards including ISO Guide 34, ISO/IEC 17025, and ISO 13485. For fully certified reference materials, Cerilliant Certificates of Analysis include uncertainty information in accordance with ISO guidelines and traceability information for satisfaction of regulatory requirements. Our multiple ISO accreditations ensure that Cerilliant products and services meet the highest industry standards accepted across international borders.
