ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – May 9, 2013 – Cerilliant introduces a new certified Snap-N-Shoot® solution of methylhexanamine or DMAA at a concentration of 1.0 mg/mL in methanol. Also known as 1,3-dimethylamylamine or Geranamine, DMAA was marketed as a dietary supplement for weight loss, performance enhancement during sports activities or exercise or muscle building.
DMAA has been linked to numerous deaths over the last few years. In 2012, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began issuing warning letters to manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements containing DMAA for lack of safety evidence. As of April, 2013, the FDA is halting the sale of DMAA-containing dietary supplements by declaring these products illegal and using its regulatory authority to enforce removal of these products from the marketplace.1
“FDA regulations impart dietary supplement manufacturers with the responsibility of ensuring product identity, purity, strength, quality, composition and that the product is not adulterated. 2,3 Certified Reference Materials play a critical role in quality control testing of dietary supplements to ensure compliance.” states Lara Sparks, Cerilliant’s Vice President of Quality Assurance.
Cerilliant Snap-N-Shoot® reference solutions are prepared and certified to the highest industry standards including ISO Guide 34 and ISO/IEC 17025. Preparation of Cerilliant reference solutions begins with full characterization of neat materials, including determination of chromatographic purity, residual solvent, residual water, and inorganic content to determine proper weighing adjustments which is critical to accuracy of the analyte concentration and lot-to-lot consistency. Rigorous testing, from concentration certification to accelerated and real-time studies, ensures solution accuracy and shelf life for long-term storage and short-term transport from Cerilliant to the end user as well as for normal lab use.
Cerilliant’s DMAA reference solution compliments their current offering of phytochemical and dietary supplement certified Snap-N-Shoot® solutions including those for ephedra amines; vitamins A, B, D, and E; artificial sweeteners such as Reb A; and botanical mixes for Ginkgo biloba, Ginseng, and Green Tea.
