Cerilliant Introduces Full Complement of Certified Reference Standards for EPA Method 539

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS – October 24, 2011 – Cerilliant introduces a complete listing of stock solutions for EPA Method 539 testing of drinking water by LC-MS/MS including estrogen hormones equilin, estriol, estrone, 17ß-estradiol, 17a-ethynylestradiol, androstenedione, and testosterone as well as the internal standard testosterone-D3. The certified solution standards are offered at a concentration of 1.0 mg/mL or 100 ug/mL in methanol.

Over the past several years, media reports and independent investigations have identified concerns with hormonal contraceptives polluting drinking water supplies. In response to growing interest in the environmental impact of these compounds, the US EPA published Method 539 for the determination of hormones in drinking water. In the October 17th edition of MailOnline(1), it is cited that the fertility of the male generation is at risk and that the presence of contraceptive hormones in drinking water could possibly become an environmental crisis. The Environment Agency published a report in late October that states entire fish stocks in some stretches of water are irreversibly affected from the synthethic oestrogen (the Pill) that women have found to be a blessing.

Derrell Johnson, Cerilliant’s New Product Development Manager, states that “Cerilliant’s over 30 years of expertise in the clinical toxicology/diagnostics and pharmaceutical industries has provided us the necessary proficiency in manufacturing and testing of these certified reference standards for environmental testing labs. This expertise combined with our ISO Guide 34 and ISO 17025 accreditations afford environmental testing labs the desired quality for their EPA Method 539 stock standards.“

Cerilliant offers a wide selection of Snap-N-Shoot® | Snap-N-Spike® certified solutions for use in environmental testing, toxicology, and research applications including certified solution standards of pesticides, PAHs, PCBs, explosives, solid waste/waste water/drinking water contaminants, steroids and hormones, from parent compounds and metabolites to stable-labeled internal standards.
